An international volunteer organization of women who promote the well-being and advancement of women and girls worldwide. There are 95,000 soroptimists worldwide in 120 countries and territories who contribute their time and financial support to community and international projects for women and girls.


The Women’s Opportunity Awards is Soroptimist’s main project. Each year more than 1 million dollars are disbursed through cash awards to women at various levels within the organization. This is to help with education costs including child care, transportation, books and tuition. Many recipients have overcome enormous challenges such as drug and alcohol abuse, domestic violence and poverty.

Application Deadline:

Must be received by December 1 of each year so the application can be forwarded to a local club before the December 15 deadline.

To qualify for this award you must meet the following criteria:

  • You must be a woman who is the financial head of the household
  • You are enrolled in and have been accepted to a vocational/skills training program or to an undergraduate degree program
  • You demonstrate financial need
  • You do not already have an undergraduate degree
  • You are a resident of one of Soroptimist International of the Americas’ 19 member countries and territories
