Contrary to popular belief there are no grants given to help buy a home, but there are grants and loans available, each with their own eligibility requirements.

You need to have a low-income to be eligible.

In addition to federal home assistance programs, there are state and local funds that cover housing needs for low-income individuals and families.

If you are looking for housing grants to pay for home repairs, rehabilitation, downpayment and closing cost assistance, or help with rental costs or utilities then check BOTH your state’s housing authority and your local housing authority to see which grants are available.

Low-income families, elderly or disabled persons are eligible to receive rental assistance in the form of low cost rent. This assistance program is managed by local public housing agencies.

For state housing authority, begin by select the correct state.

For local housing, first find your state then the nearest Housing authority.
