Education grants are gift awards and do not have to be repaid. The following are the different types of education grants available:

  • Grants for Higher Education -are funds awarded to a recipient for the purpose of covering education expenses such as tuition, books, childcare and other related expenses.
  • Research Grants-are funds awarded to support research projects that provide the advancement of knowledge within a particular field.
  • Federal Pell Grants-are federally funded grants sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education. Federal Pell Grants are awarded to individuals who are pursuing a post-secondary education. These grants are need-based and do not have to be repaid. Qualifications for a Federal Pell Grant is based on something called an EFC or expected family contibution and will be calculated when you fill out an application form. In order to apply, you must fill out a form called a FAFSA. This application form can be accessed and submitted online via the FAFSA website.
  • Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (FSEOG)-are federally funded grants that are available to low-income undergraduate students. This type of grant is available through participating colleges or universities.

In addition to federal sources, corporations, private organizations, foundations and non-profits also offer education grants for women.
