Mobile County

Mobile Country Down Payment Assistance Program

This program is funded by a grant from U.S. Department (HUD). It is designed to help low and moderate income families with affordable housing.

Grant Amount: The Down Payment Assistance Program will provide up to $7000.00 for a down payment and closing costs. The minimum is $1000. This is a grant and therefore the money does not have to be repaid.

Requirements:

  • You must live in the home for 5 years. If you move before that time frame, the grant needs to be repaid
  • You must be a U.S. citizen or legal alien resident
  • You must meet the residency and income requirements for the program
  • You must be a first- time home buyer. HUD’s definition of a first time home buyer is someone who has not owned a home in the past 3 years. The exception to this is single parents who have been divorced within the past 3 years.
  • You must attend a Homebuyer’s Training and Counseling Program. The training program is free and is offered throughout Mobile County.
