There are government grants programs for housing that cover a variety of housing needs .
The main source of funding for housing grants is the agency HUD (the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, a Federal agency). Most HUD grants are offered locally by a local HUD office or in some cases by HUD partners with local community groups and companies providing HUD’s service.
Make sure you also verify home and housing programs at your state housing agency. They may also offer home and housing grants (and aid) you are looking for. See below for a list of all states housing agencies.
Most housing grants and aid come in the form of indirect loans and grants. This mean the government does not directly give you the money, but they can help you save a lot and achieve your housing goals. For example, you could get a lower interest on your mortgage when HUD insures it for you.
Types of Housing Grants Available:
Grants that are provided to help you save on your energy bills and reduce impact on the environment.
Home Improvement Assistance Programs
Programs that provide funding or help you to save money on home repairs. These include grant programs for elderly, low-income, rural, veterans and special needs populations.
Grants and financial aid programs to help you achieve your goals of home ownership. Home Ownership grants may provide assistance with down payments and closing costs as well as mortgage insurance.
Refinancing programs help you save money through mortgage refinancing, mortgage insurance and homeowners’ grants.
Rental help programs provide affordable housing to low-income, elderly and special needs populations. Some of these programs may also provide discounts on utility bills.
Rural housing grant programs provide assistance to low-income rural Americans for the purpose of home renovation and/or repair or to help a disabled person stay in their home.
Each state offers their own state housing grants. These are funds to help low-income individuals and families with housing needs.

Thank you for this list of assistance programs. It’s very helpful. Scott
Can we get help if we contact one of these housing organizations? I tried but they are very busy. I understand the economy is creating lots of demand for their services but they should answer our requests faster.
Where can I find government grants to fix our home?
Me again! Sorry I just saw the government programs for home improvements. Great info!
